Sunex Commodities is committed to a cocoa and coffee supply chain free from modern slavery, forced labour and child labour. This statement sets out our policy, our practice and where we are honest about the work that remains.
Our position
Modern slavery, forced labour and child labour are unacceptable in any part of a supply chain. Cocoa and coffee are agricultural commodities with documented risks of these abuses in some origins. We take that risk seriously and source against it.
Our structure and supply chain
We are a trading house with offices in Cameroon (origin) and Spain (trading). Our supply chain runs from farmers and cooperatives in West and Central Africa, and South America, through warehouses and load ports, to industrial buyers in Europe and beyond.
Our policies
- No forced labour: we do not source from producers who use forced, bonded or trafficked labour.
- No child labour: we source against child-labour standards. Where children are found in work that harms them, we expect remediation, not just rejection, and we work with cooperatives on this.
- Fair treatment: we pay producers fairly and on time, and we do not withhold payment to coerce.
- KYC: we carry out due diligence on counterparties, including producers and cooperatives, before trading.
Due diligence in our supply chain
- We map origin to cooperative and farm level where we can, as part of our traceability programme (see Sustainability & Traceability).
- We collect EUDR geolocation data, which also supports origin identification and risk assessment.
- We assess origin-level risk of forced and child labour and engage cooperatives on monitoring.
- Where a producer or cooperative is found non-compliant and unwilling to remediate, we stop sourcing from them.
What is in progress
We are honest that eliminating these risks across an agricultural supply chain is ongoing work:
- Done: KYC on counterparties; origin mapping for EUDR-bound lots; clear policy against forced and child labour; fair, on-time payment practice.
- In progress: expanding farm-level monitoring across all origins; cooperative-level remediation programmes for child labour; independent verification of labour conditions.
- Aspirational: third-party-audited labour compliance across all origins.
Reporting concerns
Anyone who suspects forced labour, child labour or any abuse in a supply chain linked to Sunex Commodities can report it to info@sunexcommodities.com. We take reports seriously and investigate.
